Updates to WRAP Materials

Why were the materials revised?

The WRAP community is constantly growing and changing, as are its needs. AHP, HPP, and WRAP aim to evolve along with the needs of our community members. Many people in our WRAP community have been asking for updates and revisions to the books, along with more current WRAP Facilitator slides and manuals, so we carefully looked for ways to freshen the material without changing the tone, underlying content, or heart of WRAP. We are excited about the new materials and hope you find them useful and empowering.

Why was branding updated?

Along with the revised material, the entire WRAP series has an updated look that keeps the identifying colors people know but ties the series together so that it looks like the family of books it is. There is also a new WRAP logo that combines the key colors of the WRAP family of books with a visual depiction of the five key concepts. It represents the growth, movement, and power of WRAP. You’ll see this color combination and logo on all our new and updated products.

Do I need to buy new materials if I already own them?

No, WRAP users do not need to buy new books or other materials unless they want the updated versions. This is still the WRAP people know and love—that will never change. The key concepts, values and ethics, and foundation remain the same. However, many people will be interested in reading the new and updated content, having access to more diverse examples, and owning the updated products. The choice is yours.

What was changed in the Red Book revisions?

There were many updates to the material and the look/design of the Red Book, and we think you’ll be pleased. Among the many revisions are:

  • A new introduction and two new chapters
  • Enhancements to the wellness toolbox
  • Changes to the daily plan
  • Terminology changes to make the book more trauma-informed
  • Crisis plan and post-crisis plan updates with prompts to help people design their plan for any type of criss they may encounter—not just a mental health crisis
  • New appendecies
  • A new cover and design
  • Many new examples that fit a broader range of people

What was changed in the Veterans book revisions?

The 2018 Wellness Recovery Action Plan for Veterans, Active Service Members, and Military in Transition is a complete revision of the 2007 publication WRAP for Veterans and People in the Military. Because the changes are so substantial, we are calling it an entirely new book, not a new edition. Here are some of the changes and enhancements you’ll find:

  • Completely new foreword from a Veteran and Advanced Level WRAP Facilitator about how WRAP can support individuals currently and formerly serving in the military.
  • A detailed framing introduction putting WRAP into context of military service.
  • New content on the biggest issues facing Veterans and service members today: substance use, homelessness, trauma/PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and suicide.
  • Real-life stories from a diverse group of Veterans and active military personnel, including women Veterans and people of color.
  • New content on transitioning back to civilian life.
  • Enhancements to all parts of the WRAP.
  • New appendices, including one on Veteran-specific resources.
  • A new cover and design.

What products were revised?

So far, the Red Book and Veterans book have been revised, and the other books will soon go through the same process. The manuals and slides for WRAP Facilitators and Advanced Level Facilitators are the next to undergo a “facelift,” and we will be collaborating closely with the Copeland Center for Wellness and Recovery and current Facilitators and Advanced Level Facilitators to make sure you have the information and resources you need in formats that work for you.

Who made the updates?

All materials are being updated by AHP, with ongoing input from and review by Mary Ellen Copeland, PhD, the Copeland Center, and the international community of WRAP Facilitators and Advanced Level Facilitators.

How do I purchase the revised products?

You can order the revised products on this website, and they will be shipped as soon as they are printed.

Ownership and Copyright

Who owns WRAP?

AHP owns WRAP and Recovery Books. This purchase includes intellectual property and inventory for the 30+ books, manuals, curricula, and other educational products, along with a website, mobile app, elearning curricula, and extensive email list that reaches approximately 30,000 people each week.

Is the Copeland Center now a part of AHP?

No. Although the Copeland Center and AHP will collaborate often, they are and will remain separate organizations. AHP owns, develops, and distributes WRAP materials and books. The Copeland Center is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, governed by a Board of Directors, that exists to promote mental health recovery through education, training, and research based on WRAP. AHP’s acquisition of WRAP and Recovery Books and related intellectual property has no impact on the ownership, management, or location of the Copeland Center.

Will Mary Ellen continue to be involved in AHP and the Copeland Center?

Yes. Mary Ellen is a consultant to AHP. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Copeland Center, which she founded in 2003.

How does this affect the copyright of WRAP materials?

AHP is now the copyright holder for all WRAP materials previously owned by Mary Ellen Copeland. When we acquired WRAP and Recovery Books and its related intellectual property (books, manuals, DVDs, audio recordings, etc.), we also acquired the copyright for these materials.

See our copyright guidelines for general guidance. We will continually update the guidelines to make them more clear and user friendly, and to address the evolving needs of the WRAP community and new communication technologies. If there are any major changes, which we do not anticipate at this time, we will announce them on this site, in our email newsletter, and/or via social media.

Do I need to get new manuals, slides, and/or handouts reflecting AHP’s copyright information?

No. As AHP updates and revises materials to keep them current with the needs of the field and the WRAP community, we will incorporate the new copyright information into new editions of the materials. You do not need to alter existing materials by adding the new copyright notice.

Is the name of the model changing to something other than WRAP?

Not at this time.

Purchasing Materials

Will there be any changes to how to purchase materials and available customer service?

Not at this time. AHP hired the previous WRAP and Recovery Books Customer Service Manager as staff when we acquired WRAP and Recovery Books, and continues to provide customer service and order support exactly as before. If you need assistance, contact
